Dear Black-Medal-Thingy.
Welcome home. You deserve your spot, fair and square, on my wall. I remember last year, after running 15k (9.3m), and thus welcoming Pink/Purple-Medal-Thingy home, thinking there’s no way I could ever run 30k (18.6m), like… no way.
Well, somewhere, along the road, my mindset changed and I figured out a way to earn you. It wasn’t easy, but I did it.
I started out strong: at the first 5k I came in at 31 minutes, at the 10k mark I hit 1:03, at 16k (10 miles), I was 1h 40. I was strong. I was beaming. I was even smiling between 23k and 25k, and then I felt my legs start to hurt, my butt get tense, and those last few kilometers? My God, those last few kilometers were the hardest of my life (I’m looking at you kilometer 29k - 30k, omigod).
But then suddenly I finished, and it was over, and I had you around my neck. You, my new treasured friend, which I earned with a lot of blisters, sore muscles and sweat.
Welcome Home,
Love E
