Tomorrow I fly to Perth (wah-hoo!), which means tonight I pack for Perth (oh my!).
Packing ‘n organizing ‘n picking ‘n choosing has become nearly second nature for me. I have set packing rules: 1. try everything on before it is packed and 2. ensure it actually has a purpose. And without exception, I always follow my self-imposed packing rules… that is, until now, tonight. Why? because I can’t.
I’m too big for 85% of my summer wardrobe; I’m too big for my summer dresses!! I tried on my beloved beach dress (remember it?) tonight and I RIPPED it. Ripped the seam right down the side.
Oh what a tubby-girl moment that was.
It’s depressing staring my weight gain in the face. Depressing seeing it in such black ‘n white. Depressing knowing I fit these items a mere few months ago. And depressing seeing some of the dresses’ zippers a good few inches apart (seriously, how did I once fit this dress?).
But look. I can’t say I’m weepy about it. It is what it is, and although I’m fairly hefty (for me) these days, I know I’m trying, and for now, tonight, that will have to do. (I’m actually getting up at 7am to run with Sam, before meeting Anna at the airport at 1pm.)
Which, Little Blog, brings me to you…
Because as we all know I don’t do well when it comes to travel and food. My healthy-mode switches into whatever-I’m-on-vacation mode, and all hell lets loose. (Remember when I returned from Aruba last year? Yikes!) But I want this trip to be different. I want to keep my head in the game this trip and continue to run, try out a new crossfit, and not eat all the ice cream in the world.
This morning I weighed 79.1kg (174 pounds) <— HOLY HELL. SO THERE THAT IS.
My goal will be to stay the same.
But I was hoping to ask for some help. How do you stay healthy while on the move? How do you not decide to give in and say ‘whatever’ because you’re on vacation? I’m so nervous I’ll gain my recent weight loss back, and lose the awesome routine I’ve recently created? I want to enjoy my trip, enjoy a glass of wine on a beach, but not go crazy - y’know?

Any suggestions and/or tips would be oh-so appreciated as I’m determined to put in a healthy effort on the road!

  4. lipglossnlegos said: Just remember that nothing tastes as good as being thin feels. Enjoy! Try activities that make you move . Good luck
  5. bookbroken said: My main tips would be: try to exercise for at least 30 minutes every day and stick to fish and veggies for main meals. That means if you get enticed by something sweet, you’re already full and can eat it in moderation or split it with your boyfriend!
  6. fashionfoodfitness said: Sorry, posted that too soon! But yes- it’s brilliant that you openly admit that you still want to enjoy treats in moderation rather than crash diet, and personally I believe this is the most effective step on the journey to slim! Good luck
  7. beechadlosesit said: just remind yourself of how good you feel when you eat fresh food!
  8. celesumi said: i try to walk places when i can, and i always pack workout clothes so i can get some physical activity in. but also, when eating yummy foods - sharing! that way you can try everything and not feel bad about eating too much :)
  9. kathlellen10 said: Some jeans that I almost threw out 3 yrs ago b/c I lost weight & thought “my legs will never be that big again” are now too SMALL for me! Smaller than ever. Like my body gained all my weight back in my thighs & hips just to taunt me. I feel ur pain!!

  11. livinglights said: I try to remind myself that the food will always be there. I don’t have to blow my diet just cause I’m on vacation. I always end up feeling like this after and it takes forever to get back on track. Stick to your healthy plan and walk walk walk!
  12. angies--life said: hit a grocery store as soon as you get there n pick up veggies/fruits/ whatever healthy items they have n keep those w/you along w/water.
  13. losingwins said: i would say that whatever you plan to eat, split it with someone. you save money and calories!
  14. therevickigoesagain said: Try to plan vaca activities that are active and i try to stick as close to paleo as I can and at the very least gluten free.
  15. wanderlustheory said: Just keep walking (no buses/taxis) and take lots of fluid. weight loss happens to me whenever I’m traveling (8kg in Nepal and 5kg in China). I gym a lot back home back never seem to work. I guess walking and perspiration works for my tough fats…
  16. tnmskeena08 said: I normally eat half of whatever they serve at the restaurant and religiously follow a full glass of water before and after bed plus on glass of water to whatever else I’m drinking. Dehydration while traveling is usually my problem.
  17. lignt-as-a-feather said: Hey hon, I know exactly what you are saying. My advice is: listen to your body and not your head, stop eating when you are full, if you want, have some icecream but remember… if only the first half has an impact on our taste buds, why get the mammoth sized? get a small…
  18. denmarkhereicome said: If I’m eating out somewhere and know I’m going to splurge, I’ll limit it to one plate. I can have whatever I want, but I only get one plate.
  19. karikeepsrunning said: My only suggestion is to plan activities that do not center around food at all.
  20. missunkissed said: When I’m on trips, if I snack, it’s pumpkin seeds. When I go out to eat, I try to find a meal-sized salad with some sort of protein (ex: seared salmon) on top. Or save half of my meal for later. If you get a dessert, split it with other people. :)
  21. under--pinkmoonlight said: Honestly the more I think about food, the harder it is to control it. Enjoy the things you want to enjoy, but don’t obsess about what you should and shouldn’t eat. Stay active, go for walks, just have a good time!
  22. ihopeyoulikeblackberries said: I’m just now working on a post about this (I travel twice a month so I have some experience in this area) but here are my basic tips: 1. water 2. exercise 3. only eat one splurge meal per day 4. no snacking! Stay strong, I promise it can be done!
