Today was my first, official day using My Fitness Pal. It was, ummm, eye opening. My goal (as per their recommendation) was to hit 1,200 calories and I was exactly 4 calories shy of it.

But.

But it was obviously too little food. As I type this I feel hungry. I gave up fruit in the afternoon, a 3rd coffee this morning, the beans in my Mexican…

However.

The thing is.

Seriously? That’s it? 6 pounds in 5 weeks for HARDLY EATING ANYTHING.

Depressing

So, so, so depressing.

I hate how there’s no secret to this stupid thing, it’s just learning to control portion controls, and excessive deliciousness.

Day 1 down.

A million to go.

  5. quixoticandabsurd said: 1200 calories is for people who don’t move ever. You could probably burn that in your sleep. 1600 is where mine is set (and I lose when I stick to it), and you’re way more active than me.
  6. cmstrach said: I would suggest you up your calories. With the amount of running/crossfire you do you should be eating way more than 1200 calories a day. If you eat too little your body will go into starvation mode and you wont lose weight. I would try 1400+ a day.
  7. windowtounderland said: Make sure you’re adding any exercise. It’s takes any calories you burn off what you ate.
  8. biscuitpusher said: I could never get my eating control when I was running marathon training distances. I cut WAY back on the running and started incorporating a lot more cycling and have finally been able to make progress. I love the program though! Good luck. :)
  9. unfuckeningmylife said: I don’t know if you know this, but MFP tends to underestimate the calories you need, which can slow down your weightloss. 1200 is not very much for someone who works out. Might be worth checking out other calculators and averaging them.
  10. tristynm said: You got this! It will get easier. Plus… You should never give up natures candy :) FRUIT!
  11. emilydoesscience said: uggggh. good luck!
  12. androidlady said: 1200 is SUPER HARD. Please don’t beat yourself up. I do 1400 & meeting that goal can still be a fight. Be kind to your gorgeous self & remember consistency is really what matters. If you can rock even 1500/day, do THAT consistently. It WILL pay off.
  13. carrotsandhummus said: 6 pounds in 5 weeks is actually pretty good. That’s about half a kilo a week. It’s a process..change takes time :) Also, you should be upping your calories when you’re doing crossfit/running to about 1600-1700.
  14. smaller-n-smaller said: I have been on myfitnesspal for over 2 years. Switch your weight per week from 2 lbs to 1.5 lbs. Seriously. You’ll thanks me later. And you’ll still lose weight. I promise.
  15. greatescapes22 said: Are you logging your exercise? If you log your exercise, it gives you extra calories to make up what you burned.
  16. whatrhymeswithemily said: I am back on MFP today too. We can do this!
  17. eastcoastheartsouthernsoul said: What do you have your weight loss per week set at? 1200 calories is crazy low! If you want some friends on there please add me. My user name is jld1119.
  18. golai said: Especially given how active you are, 1200 is most likely not enough for you to be eating unless you shrank 6” overnight… Get a calorie rec from a dietician or physician or do your own independent research. Don’t just go with what MFP “recommends”.
  19. peachkinn said: As far as calorie counters goes, myfitnesspal kinda sucks. I use Spark People.
  20. lofosho said: When you’re counting calories it forces you to eat better food so you get enough. Lose the dairy and the sugar and add some vegetables and protein!
  21. myownboss-flyestbit said: But that’s not technically true, if you work out & push yourself your body will change, you will grow to realize that it’s not about the number. It’s about the physical & emotional change. Don’t get down on that comment, it’ll change everyday.
  22. devonrunning said: Veggies have hardly any calories, right? You can probably eat a ton of those to fill up and not affect the calorie count too much!

  24. andthegamesafoot said: I think 1200 calories is too few. I’m about your weight and height (an inch taller) and I run 2-4 times per week and eat at least 1500 calories a day, and I’m still losing weight weekly. With your exercise level/muscles, eat more!
  25. drunkonopportunity said: I’m sure you’re all over this, but you’re supposed to net 1200- so on days you exercise- put it in there so you can eat more!
