1/2 Marathon # THREE!!
- Umm WHOA, never-ever, thought I’d create a post with that title.
Well, it was a saunter run to say the least; my final chip time was 2 hours, 29 minutes, but I’d like to add that I had a 7 minute (omigod 7 minute!! Stupid lack-of-washrooms) washroom stop, and I was running slow not-fast on purpose due to my shin splints, and as I’m terrified of hurting myself before the Full Marathon in 10 days (!!!!!! $*#@% !!!!!!).
My friend, A, ran it too. It was her first big race, and I can honestly say I felt like a beaming mother when she crossed the finish line. I was so, so proud of her.
So proud.
After our 1/2s we went and watched the full marathoners finish and I was in awe of each and every one of them. I saw a guy’s legs buckle about 700 meters away from the finish line. The paramedics had to come and help him; my heart went out to him. It was really sad to watch.
Some people have asked me what my goal time is for the full. The answer? To finish. And I sincerely mean that.
I will be thrilled to finish the race, no matter what my time is. I’m a 165 pound girl, running 42.2 kilometers (26.1 miles), when I started running less than 2 years ago.
Actually, “thrilled” is probably an understatement of how I’ll feel. Whever I run races I am overcome with emotions at certain parts of the race, and always have to hold back tears when I cross the finish line. I have no doubt I will be crying tears of joy, when I cross the finish line on October 10th, as I’m sure I’ll be my #1 fan, beaming with pride for myself.
