Oh Hai Weekend (Part II)
Forgive me. I’m in a blogging mood. (Continued from Part I)
Sunday morning is for horse riding. Always has been. Always will be. I’m debating doing another full marathon next summer purely because long-run-Sundays mean I don’t get to ride. I know, I know, but horses > running. Anywho, right now in riding we’re doing some really awesome things. Like, fancy horse-movement things. Things I think even non-horse people would be all like “wow” if they saw it. We play soccer with the horses (true story - see my Instagram video for proof) And move side-ways. And go over, around, through, and backwards on obstacles. Ride bareback (no saddle). And I’m attempting (poorly) to become a horse-whisperer (ha. not really, but kind of). It’s amazing how horses respond to our bodies. For example if I’m on the ground next to my horse (Cynco) and take a big breath, puff my chest up, and point, he’ll canter forward. It’s super-duper cool. And ohmygawd I’ll stop typing now because yes, I am a crazy horse lady.
Fun fact Four: When I was about 5 I had to go the hospital because I was at a birthday party holding an ice-cream cone (obviously) and a party-horse went to eat my ice-cream, but instead took a bite out of my tummy. Cool story Liz.
After riding I got creative and made my friend Maria a (super delayed) engagement present. You may or may not have been able to tell, but I’m the world’s most un-creative person. Ever. I can’t draw and have very little creative talent, but nonetheless I decided to tackle a DIY mug project.
Essentially a few weeks ago I was searching Etsy for a gift for my friends, and searched “Up!” the movie on Etsy because that movie has meaning to them (first date & Case won major points by editing the movie to get the narrator to ask Maria to marry him. Anywho…) I saw the mugs, and thought… “I can do that!”
And so I went to Michaels and bought two mugs, some Sharpie markers and got to work. Ta-da! I am super-duper impressed with the final results. *insert self high-five here*
All you need are mugs, and sharpies, and then you can decorate them however you choose. On the back I wrote “Adventure is out there” (a quote from Up!), and the date of their wedding.
Fun Fact Five: Need a cheap Christmas present? ta-da!
This evening I met my friend Maria for coffee and dinner. Gah. I can feel all the emotions creep into my face as I think about what I want to say about this. The archives of this blog will quickly prove Maria has been a leading actor in my life since grade 9. She’s been my best-friend, my partner in crime, wing-man, buddy, bro, bestie, and alley throughout the years. But somewhere along the way our friendship got blurred, and although I would have always been there for her (and her for me) we drifted apart as we went through growing pains as our lives went in different directions.
Since I returned from Australia we’ve put effort into getting our friendship back on track. It wasn’t always easy, but we always continued to try. And tonight we went to dinner to celebrate my birthday on Tuesday (shhhh, we’re going to pretend my birthday doesn’t exist this year. hmmmk?) and it was the absolute bomb-diggity
I’ll just copy n’ paste my Facebook message to her here, because this sums up my thoughts nicely: Hey Maria, remember how two weeks ago I said, “I’ve taken the pressure off our friendship. I think of us now as acquaintances”? Well that was utter and complete bullshit. You have always been, are, and will always be my best friend. I am so happy we’re dating again. Ha. But really. You are SO fantastic and I missed you so fucking much, I can feel all the tears coming as I type this because we are so goddamn awesome together, and if I was a man I would try and steal you from Casey. Love you lots, and thank you sooooo much for today. xoxox”
Final Fun Fact: I *really* like making collages. Can ya tell?
She is the best. And I love her SO much. And for anyone going through friend issues out there (because shit happens), I suggest fighting for them. It’s worth it.
We drank wine tonight and were merry. AND, the thoughtful gal got me the Humans of New York book, and gorgeous scarf, lovely key-chain, and a scandalous card for my 29th - so kind of her. Maria, thank you. xoxo
Oh boy, oh boy, what a great, busy, wonderful, final weekend of being 28 it has been. It’s nearly 1am and I’m heading to the ‘One of a Kind’ show tomorrow morning so really I should sleep, but I thought I would pop in and share. Because, well, y’know, that’s what I do. :)
